Objects can be described in terms of the materials they are made of and their observable and measurable properties.

*Objects and materials have observable and measurable properties (color, size, shape, taste, texture, weight, volume, flexibility, bounce, etc.)
*Objects cut or broken into tiny pieces are still made of the same material (matter).
*Objects and materials can be measured, sorted, and grouped by their observable and/or measurable properties.
*Things can be done to materials to change their observable and/or measurable properties.
*Water can be a solid or a liquid and can be changed back and forth from one form (phase) to the other.
*Water left in an open container disappears, but water left in a closed container does not disappear.
